Outline of functionality

*V-Cat 1.0
V-Cat (Volume-Computer Aided Testing) is a volume segmentation software which extracts the target regions of 3D image data obtained by imaging devices such as X-ray CT, MRI, and confocal laser scanning microscopy (BMP and TIFF formats consist of cross-sectional images). It is also equipped with a function for creating surface meshes from segmented images (VOBJ, STL).

*V-Cat 2.0
Parallel version enabling processing of mass volume data using V-Cat1.0 Linux-Cluster.

Features

・BMP and TIFF formats are supported (cross-sectional images).
・Visualization of inputs and corresponding segmented images by orthogonal three cross-sections and arbitrary cross-sections.
・Basic image and mask processing techniques are implemented: Binarization via manual thresholding (RGB or HSV), coupling extraction, expansion/contraction, noise processing, mask inversion, etc.
・Mask ID range (material number) is eight bits (0 to 254).
・Manual segmentation is supported using pen tablet device or PC mouse.
・Segmented data consists of input images, and mask ID (material ID) is saved in the V-Cat format (.vcat).
・Mask IDs (material ID) can be saved in the BMP format separately from segmented data, instead of the V-Cat format (.vcat).
・Segmented images are visualized using surface and volume rendering techniques.
・Boundary meshes of segmented images can be saved in the STL and VOBJ formats.
・Editing transparency for volume rendering enables intuitive understanding of the relative positions of segmented images.
